People come to counseling for many reasons. You might be at a crossroads, seeking direction, or you're trying to resolve a specific problem, feeling stuck, wanting to build better coping skills, or simply looking for a safe space where you feel heard and understood.

If you're unsure of "what brings you here today?" — that's perfectly okay, too. It all begins with a simple conversation, and sometimes, that’s all it needs to be.

What To Expect In Therapy

Starting therapy is a big step, and you might wonder what it’s really like. Here’s a look at what you can generally expect from the experience

A Warm, Welcoming Start
Right from the beginning, you’ll find a space that’s all about understanding and acceptance. The first few sessions are a time for you and I to get to know each other, build trust, and talk about what brings you to therapy. It’s a gentle start, focused on creating a safe, open environment.

Setting Your Goals Together
Therapy is about what matters most to you. We will talk about the changes you want to see, and these goals will guide your time together and help track your progress. It's also possible that goals may change throughout the course of therapy, but they help to anchor us and keep things on track.

A Space for Honest Exploration and Self-Discovery

In this space, we explore feelings, memories, and beliefs with curiousity and kindness, that may be hard to discuss elsewhere. We can often be met with resistance here (as we have some clever defense mechanisms that aim to protect us), and while this can sometimes be challenging, working through this often leads to meaningful self-discovery. You'll start to notice patterns in your thoughts and behaviors, gaining a clearer understanding of yourself, which is empowering.

Practical Tools for Real Life
It's not just about endless exploration and introspection though. Counselling equips you with practical tools you can use in everyday situations. Whether it’s strategies for managing stress, improving communication, or dealing with conflict, these tools are there to support you in tangible, meaningful ways beyond each session.

Navigating the Highs & Lows

Healing isn't linear. Some days it can feel enlightening, while others feel the opposite. I do my best to provide helpful insights and perspective as much as possible. Sometimes, clear progress happens quickly in just a few sessions. Sometimes, it takes a little longer. Remember, it's a process.

Moving Forward
When you've reached the outcome you were hoping for, it's time to end therapy. Here, we will relflect on your journey, celebrating your growth and reflecting on how far you've come. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of yourself and some helpful strategies to keep moving forward on your own. The door will be open for you to come back any time, if ever needed.

Everyone has different needs and preferences, and due to popular demand, I’ve added an option for an extra 30 minutes. I understand that sometimes 60 minutes can fly by, and just as you’re on the brink of a breakthrough, time runs out.

Now, you have the option for a 90-minute session so we can really dive deep together.
