A warm welcome is just the beginning.

Hello and a very warm welcome! It seems like you may be wondering if now is the right time to see a therapist. While this may feel a little scary if you haven't tried therapy before—and even if you have— but I assure you it can be a very rewarding experience.

Come on through and take a look around to see if you think we could work together.

What brings you here today?

You could be looking to develop tangible coping skills to help you resolve a specific problem, or you may just be looking for a safe place where you feel listened to and supported. Even if you’re not entirely sure “what brings you here today?”, that’s okay, too! It all starts with a simple conversation. That’s all it ever really needs to be.

Focus Areas

There are many reasons people look for counselling. Here are some of the common themes I see a lot with my clients and that I love helping them with.

Anxiety

Experiencing anxiety from time to time is very normal. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. But too much of it can certainly cause us some problems.

Maybe you're overwhelmed by "what ifs" or feeling trapped by "I shoulds" or "I have tos." Many people focus on worst-case scenarios and can't see the wood for the trees.

There are lots of ways to help you better recognise, understand and manage anxiety so that it doesn't control your life and hold you back from enjoying it.

Self-esteem

Self-esteem is the extent to which one prizes, values, approves or likes oneself.

When we’re experiencing low self-esteem, we tend not to see ourselves very clearly. It’s almost like we’re looking in the mirror at one of those fun houses, where all the bad bits get really, really big and the good bits get really, really small, or are overlooked altogether.

We tend to filter out any awareness of our own positive qualities, while seeing others with clarity. We can work on improving your self-esteem, your confidence, and self-worth.

Grief

Grief is a natural response to loss.

It can occur after losing anything that was once important to us. This can be the loss of a person, a job, a relationship, a belief. It also often arises when we transition into new life stages—and it can really catch us off guard.

The timeline for healing from grief is non-linear, which can be confusing and frustrating when you want to just "move on". We can work on helping you through feeling it and healing it.

How do I work?

Warmth • Empathy • Authenticity

There is no “one size fits all” approach to counselling. Each person has different reasons for seeking a little extra support, so the approach I take for each of you is ultimately guided by, and adapted to, whatever you’re looking to take away from it.

My intention is always to keep you moving forward toward reaching your desired state/goal/feeling, and I’ll continuously be supporting throughout the process to help you remove blockages so you're not getting stuck in one place.

While I mostly use a Person-centred approach, I also blend this with some other modalities including Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to name a couple, but again, what we use depends on the problems we’re trying to solve together.

Our sessions are consultative and collaborative, meaning I'll always introduce any suggested interventions and discuss next steps with you before diving into any exercise or activity, so you have a say in how we do (or do not) proceed.

Please email me if you have any questions at all :)

Finding a therapist that is a good fit for you can take some time because we’re all different, just like you. I truly value the connection I develop with each of my clients, and I consider this to be one of the most important parts of the work we will do together. So, if you just want to have a quick chat and see if we're a good fit, this is a good option.

If you’re noticing there are things in your life that you want to change but you’re not sure how to, if it would even be worthwhile if you did, or you already know what you want to change and you’re asking yourself questions like “what can I do?, then this is a pretty good time for you to reach out to work with me.

Everyone has different needs, but the process takes time. I recommend 8 sessions, however, sometimes it's a little less, sometimes it's a little more.

But don't worry, we'll be continuously working together to empower you with the knowledge and ability to navigate challenging moments for yourself in every session.
